Herbaland Presents: Bee Good Grove Garden

Here at Herbaland, we are big advocates of being a part of the local community and also living a healthy & sustainable lifestyle. Why not combine both? So we did it right here at our Herbaland Headquarters and built our own community garden, Bee Good Grove.

Our fellow Herbalander and designated green thumb, Natalie, had the idea to create the garden. "There was a large landscaped area at our headquarters that had been totally cleared of all the bushes and trees. That area was just a dirt covered patch of land for a bit and that sparked the idea for a garden space! I love the fact that this space could be a place for all of our coworkers to learn a bit more about gardening and also provide nutritious food for them and their families. The next step was to come up with a name and get to work!"

February: Planning, layout and researching supplies

The work on the garden started back in February 2019. Shoutout to Natalie who did all the planning on the layout and researched where to purchase the supplies needed. Awesome job Natalie!

April: Construction of the Garden Beds

The wood was purchased from Surrey Cedar

By spring time, the weather was getting better so it was time to start the wood work! Our amazing fellow Herbalanders dedicated some time each day to help with the garden and construct the garden beds. After construction, they did an awesome job in leveling the beds and making sure it's sitting evenly on the ground so it's stable.

May: Adding soil and wiring

We purchased the soil/bark mulch from a local company in Surrey called Art’s Nursery

May rolled by right on time for the volunteers to start adding in the soil and raking them to cover the entire bed space for the seeds to grow in. The wires were also setup for some of the herbs to grow in. In time, it will gradually climb up and fill the entire wire space.

Mid May: Planting Time!

After a few weeks, the garden is ready to be planted with herbs, flowers and veggies! The seeds are from Garden Works and we also want to say a big thank you to West Coast Seeds for donating some of the seeds that we planted in our garden!

These are just some of what we planted:

  • Veggies: Kale, variety of lettuce, cabbage, radishes, carrots, potatoes, beans, peas, spinach, pak choi, cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, variety of squashes
  • Herbs: Fennel, rosemary, dill, parsley, sage, chives, thyme, oregano, basil
  • Flowers: Marigolds, sunflowers, wildflowers, chamomile, lilies

Mid June: In Bloom

Oh how time flies! A month has passed and the garden is overflowing! Herbs are starting to climb up the wires, some flowers are in full bloom & the vegetables are ready to be harvested. Natalie makes sure to show these plants some love and waters them every. Soon, we will be receiving our own veggie baskets from the garden.

Natalie makes sure to show the plants some love by watering them every week!

Veggie Bags

The veggies are harvested and are now in veggie bags to take home! We are all so excited to share these with our families and friends.

Stay tuned for more exciting updates about Bee Good Grove!
